Maria Helena de Toledo Chermont was born in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, on June 30, 1937. The extremely underrated but highly skilled Brazilian vocal stylist, famous for her partnership with Luiz Bonfá and for having been the first Brazilian singer to record with Stan Getz, died in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on February 3, 2010.
